We all want to go fast. To get instant gratification, immediate results. To justify that hefty purchase.
But good things don't come by snapping your fingers. It takes time to get comfortable. To warm up to a new camera, new interface, new size and weight and shape.
It's been one week today I got my NEX 6.

I'm both loving it and needing more time to really be comfortable with it. Natural. Like I'd gotten to be with my 5N after a few weeks despite its numerous quirks. The 6's user interface and operational speed are definitely better than the 5's. AF is arguably a bit improved. Not hugely so. Not enough to make me switch from my manual lenses anyway.

I decided that to fully appreciate the camera, I need maximum time with it. I took it to my in-laws for lunch today. All shots are either from there, of from tonight in our own home.

Shots above are from the PEN F 38/1.8 at F2. The Jack-o-lantern was done in Toy camera filter. The B&W is done in camera as well, and everything is jpeg.

Here's the Canon FL 55/1.2, shortly after F:1.4 (no real click between 1.4 and 2, so it's hard to tell) : such a great lens is a real asset. It's not easy to shoot, but properly focused, it's really special.

My father-in-law has a broken Russian 1980 Zenit camera, with Helios 44M mounted on it. Here is the lens on the NEX6 :

Last one with the FL55. Great, great lens.

All feedback is welcome, as well as questions about the camera, use of flash, etc... I'm using the built-in-flash more and more, it's pretty cool.

Gorgeous, gorgeous. My fave is the one where your daughter is at the window. The FL55 Shows amazing DOF.

I really like the last pic for some reason. The extremely shallow DOF, the focus on the pen and your daughter's full attention towards her work gives the composition a subliminal meaning. Makes me want to know what she was writing - as if the photo is telling me a story that I may never know about. Very cool. :)

Thanks to both of you for the kind words. I do love the window picture (I have a super soft spots for kids bathed in window light), and the extreme DOF shot demonstrate how much fun the super fast FL is to use. She was just scribbling away, but to her that was intensely important !
I'm enjoying the cam more and more everyday, feeling like I'm working towards really "owning" it. I'm starting to get little goodies for it, a new leather neck strap, a body cap, considering a new bag... When you start seing me posting pictures OF the cam, you'll know it has won my heart, LOL.

I find with the 5N that the body is too short and that there is a distinct lack of "pinkie room" at the base of the grip. How does the 6 compare with the extra height in the body?

Plenty of finger estate on the 6. I had forgotten how tiny the N feels until I packed it for shipping tomorrow.
The 6 is almost identical in size and shape to the GX-1, minus the sexy curve and hefty, dense feeling. It's a boxy camera. A little added feminine DNA wouldn't have hurt. But it certainly is good to hold.

Really? How much did you pay? Mine's preordered at $849 USD but maybe I should wait? Can use my NEX-3 for a few extra weeks if the price is simply dropping so soon...just need it for a vacation to Maui before 12/19. :)

No, the excellent discount here amounted to negate the currency difference. Except I have full European warranty and had immediate delivery, all that for the US price.

All shots from my beloved 55/1.2. This lens is growing on me like you wouln't believe ! Big, heavy, razor thin DOF, but gorgeous IQ, sharp from 1.4 (which is insane for such a fast piece of glass), bitingly so from 1.5, decent bokeh, great low light capabilities. I had my doubts at first as whether to keep it, but it's too darn good to go anywhere.

Yep, the B&W is a great shot of her cheeky expression... but the 3rd pic is the exact opposite - so loving and adorable! :)
