I use a NEX5T for IR and I'm very pleased with it. The only thing lacking is the absence of an EVF.
I agree. If you're interested in adapting manual focus lenses, your experience will be much more satisfying with an EVF, especially with focus peaking and focus magnification.
I recommend you look into a NEX 6 or a6000. The prices have really come down on the those a6000's.

I don't know what your budget is but I purchased a near mint NEX-6 (~1200 shutter count) for a very reasonable price (to me) for around $235.00 with free shipping. It has an excellent EVF. I have some old Minolta glass adapted and it is a fun set-up.
