Just purchased my Nex 6.... First non PnS with the help of this great forum!!!!! Thanks! I am going on a few beach vacations this summer and wanted to know about need for a zoom lense. I'm using the 16-50 it came with for now.

You can get Sony SEL55210 55-210mm f/4.5-6.3 Lens and it should cover the tele side for your vacations. It is a big (long) lens compared to 16-50mm lens.

I waffle back and forth between having the 18-55/55-210 combo and wanting a 18-200. The two lens combo is actually lighter, but the 18-200 obviously would require fewer (or no, if 18mm is wide enough for you) lens changes. This could be a big factor if you're somewhere dusty.

Since I already have the 2 lens combo I'll probably stick with it. Especially since I really have no complaints with the image quality they produce.

If I were starting from scratch I'd get a 18-200. Since you already have the 16-50 I'd get the 55-210, which is much less expensive anyway.

Looky there! Talked myself right into what I already own. Imagine that! :clapping:

Won't do any good. They'll be so enthused with the new camera that they'll forget we told them.

For a beach I'd rather have the Rokinon 8mm rather than the zoom. I have the 55-210 and like it but for beaches I would think wider is better.

Then again, w̶h̶o̶ what are planning to zoom in on a beach? ;)

I don't think those were on Colin's list of possible options. :dance3:

Well, there's always that chance you'll miss the focus on the kids and "accidentally" catch some other beach goers in the shot.
