So far I've repeatedly heard but not seen these guys or else seen them but not in the VF. They live high in the crowns of gum trees. I was jinxed.

At last my luck turned.

These little guys are Spotted Pardelotes, gathering nesting material here I assume, at a well-used stringybark log. A fast bushfire had been through here in the summer, mostly without affecting the forest canopy, so it's good to see these guys rebuilding a nest.

Mt Kapatur NP, NSW, 28.6.20.

These were captured on a bushwalk and I was using the A7R III, FE 100-400 & 2x TC. That meant f11 max and the body was running on contrast detect AF only. Most of the shots of small birds at a distance were soft or AF failed altogether, but the rig is light enough to allow 800mm on foot.
