    Hello everyone,
As I start to collect more glass to my collection, I have a question for you guys.
I need an 85mm lens. I was looking into the MD f/1.7 or the Rokinon f/1.4.
I wanted to know which one would you guys select and why?

I think it can be hard to get an 85mm MD f1.7 without paying a lot of money.

I have the F2 version, and I am a big fan. My favourite manual focus lens. Don't know that it would actually out perform a modern lens? Maybe. It is very good.

But the Rokinon is certainly a lot cheaper!

Money not being an object, which one would be better?

I am seriously thinking about Samyang 85mm/1.4. It is pretty good wide open (I have Zeiss Contax 85mm/2.8 Sonnar that is very good but only 2.8) and I am planning to get it in PK mount and try it with lens turbo too.

Btw, there is one Minolta MC Rokkor 1.7 / 85mm at MK Optics for sale for 270 €. Not a pristine copy.

I'm another big fan of the f/2 Minolta. I like the comparatively small size, low weight and 49mm filter thread (same as a couple other Minoltas I use and of course some of the new Sony primes).

Of course, none of that would matter if the performance wasn't great.
