Adolescent just taking a mealworm from Papa.
( I've noticed all adult birds close their eyelids when an adolescent lunges for the food in their beaks...but first time I ever noticed the adult Bluebird's eyelid seems to be blue)
Pleasant surprise...a local TV station just selected / aired the 2nd photo in the OP above.
Here's a shot of the 2 adolescents returning to the mealworms by themselves...looking a little perplexed...a caption might read:
"How do we get mealworms into our mouths without Mom & Dad here?"
