One thing I noticed right off is that it creates some sort of chain link flare pattern.

    (LOL)

Looks good...technical set-up details would be interesting too

    Thanks!

Pretty easy in fact. Set the camera on a tripod and use a wireless (IR) shutter remote release (I used one of those cheap IR remotes from china and it works great). It's really important to make sure to avoid camera shake.
I used the G 18-105mm, f/11, ISO 100 and 6'' sec exposure and let the camera do the rest :D

    Nice job Nick.

The one thing I would say is to make the length of exposure match the scene. You used 6 seconds, which would be fine in heavy or free flowing traffic, but in this case I seemed the traffic pattern created unnecessary breaks in the trails.
I would also try a higher/smaller aperture. This can sometimes produce nice stars on the light sources depending on the blades in the lens. This is great on night scenes.

Very cool shots. I tried my first light trail shots last year, really enjoyed it. I need to try more. I can post some of my shots if you care to see

I like that yours have sky and water in them, looks really cool.

I've only tried maybe half a dozen times. These are some of the decent shots.

I do like light trail shots, only ever had one attempt myself. This was in Warsaw, Poland. No tripod, held the camera still on the hotel balcony rail.
