I wonder how this will compare to the metabones speed booster as it has almost the same focal length reduction (0.72 vs 0.71). I guess this would reduce the crop factor of my Canon FD 50mm 1.4 down from ~75mm (1.5 crop) to ~55mm (1.1 crop).

The price is currently reduced to about $200, which is 100 cheaper than what metabones charges for their non electronic focal reducers, but it really has to be of similar performance for me to consider it. I hope the big sites get them in for review soon. Would be nice to pick one up in hongkong, or here in shanghai through taobao (Iv noticed their 35mm F/0.95 designed for mirroless cameras on their for just under 4000 RMB [~500 euros], but no focal reducers).

Welcome to Talknex. Yes, it should have 1.08 multiplier ~ 54mm f/1+ lens. See the post here about test samples posted at Xitek:

I don't have too high an expectation, but I might get the FD version just to see how well/bad it works. My guess is, it should be pretty good in the center, while not so good at the edge/corner. So it probably is not best for landscape, but for portrait or things that edge/corner is not important, it can be useful.

The reason I picked FD version, is I can easily find Nikon and m42 to Canon FD adapters. If it works out, I might also get the Minolta MD one.

Orderd Mitakon Lens Turbo Adapter [Canon FD to Sony NEX] #197

I just ordered the Mitakon speed booster for Canon FD mount from MXcamera. I also plan on using a Nikon to FD adapter as well as M42 to FD adapter. I will let you know how things turn out once I receive the adapter. Hopefully it won't take as long as the Contax G to NEX AF adapter. It shipped on May 24.

The appature post is too long and hits the base of the mount.

how long is too long? My FD 50mm 1.4 SSC has two huge aperture pins sticking out of the bottom, but I would assume they took this into account when designing the thing.

My FD is fine. It's the FL that is longer.

Weird, I just compared the pins of my FL and FD lenses and they're identical in length, though obviously FL is a round pin and FD is that flat wedge shape

Maybe it's just that lens. It's almost twice as long.

Which lens is it? FL 85/1.8 and 55/1.2 both have the same length pins for me (comparing with FDn 50/1.4 and Tokina 70-210)

I wonder does the adapter have a very narrow and precise groove for the FD wedge - since the FL pin is round its slightly fatter than the FD pin

    OMG !!!
I played around again and I got it to fit. It must have been slightly off cause I see a metal spot on the inside of the adapter where the paint came off from rubbing on the pin.
