I have the chance to pick this lens up...does anyone have any experience with it that they can share? Should I look for an alternative like the Canon 85 mm instead?

I have and like this lens. For me better than Canon fd 85 1.8. i have it too.

Konica is smaller and easier to carry. And i love bokehs it produce. It have trioplan like sharp edged bokehs.

    amuqy6uv.

Only photo i could find on my phone taken with this lens. Can be example for bokehs.

And it is satisfactory sharp. İf you find it cheap, get it

That could be true for the SSC version of Canon FD, but the FDn version could be shorter and less heavy.

Weight : 345g (Canon FDn) Vs 400g (Konica AR)
Length : 53.5mm (Canon FDn) Vs 67mm (Konica AR)
Filter : 52mm (Canon FDn) Vs 55mm OR 58mm (Konica AR)
Diameter : 63mm (Canon FDn) Vs Not Available (Konica AR)

However, the Adapter for KonicaAR-NEX will be 1.3mm shorter than the FD-NEX adapter, as the "flange focal distance" of Konica AR mount is 40.7mm as against 42mm of Canon FD. So, with the adapter, the Konica AR 85 F/1.8 lens could be 12.2mm (67-53.5-1.3) longer than the Canon FDn.

You will get more information from the links below:
    Canon FDn --- http://www.canonclassics.com/lens-review.php?itemid=75
    Konica AR --- http://www.buhla.de/Foto/Konica/Objektive/e85_18.html

I have no experience with Konica AR Lens and what I wrote above is purely from reading the links above. Pls do tell us which one you end up buying.

I purchased the Konica and it is in mint condition. Picked up for $100 ($250) after selling some lenses. It is extremely well made, has excellent sharpness (surprised me), and it does have great bokeh. It is now one of my favorite lenses! I have the emount 24, 35, 50 primes to go with the Konica 85mm prime plus the kit zoom 18-50. I may pick up the 55-210 at some point. I would definitely recommend the Konica to anyone looking for an outstanding portrait+ lense for the Nex/Alpha.

Thanks for all of the info by the way!
