Is "back button focus" with AF-C possible on the A7?

I've tried using back button focus on the A7 by mapping AF/MF hold to the AF/MF toggle button but it defaults to AF-S which is less useful than AF-C. Any way to change that? Ideally I'd love to leave in the camera in MF mode but switch to AF-C when I hold down the AF/MF button.

I don't think that is a choice. If you use MF most of the time you could compromise and put the camera in AF-C mode and change it to MF with a press of the AF/MF Button Toggle each time it powers up. You would need to keep AF w/ Shutter ON. The compromise is you don't get back-button-focus ability.

I do agree it would be nice if we could choose AF-S or AF-C for back button focus.

Thanks. Even more odd is that the "AF on" setting does work this way EXCEPT that then you lose manual focus when the AF is off. So close...
