I've just returned from a three-week motorcycle trip through Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego, and managed to capture some images I thought would be worth sharing here. Some of my favorites:

All were shot with the A7II and either the SEL24240 or SEL1635Z. And if you want to see more, there are a few additional photos in an album on my Flickr page.

Thanks Nick! But I sure hope it's not a lifetime trip. I'm "only" 59 and I'd like to think I have a few more of these left in me. :D

I rented a BMW F800GS Adventure down there. I ride the regular F800GS here at home, so the Adv. model felt familiar, and the big 24L tank made it possible to get from one isolated gas station to the next. There's a whole lot of empty in Patagonia. :rolleyes-20:

Lovely series, David - looks like you've had a great time down there. So how did the camera gear hold up?

Great shots. I want to get back there. Last time I was there I had a 5mp canon bridge camera. I was in Torres Del Paine for 3 days and only saw the peaks once when I was driving in. I didn't get to take a picture of them. The rest of the time they were under cloud cover. Lesson learned.

Thanks Ken. It all held up very well. I took the A7II, four batteries, the 16-35 and 24-240 FE zooms, the 35 and 55 FE primes, and the Contax G 90. But the 24-240 got by far the most use, and I never once used the 55 nor the 90.

It was extremely windy and dusty, so I was reluctant to change lenses out of doors. I never shot in the rain, but quite often in a light drizzle. The camera was in the tank bag on the bike at all times, and some of those roads were really, really rough. Everything on the bike, including me, took a beating.

At night I took a blower to the sensor, recharged the batteries, and got ready for the next day. Bottom line: none of the camera gear ever gave me the least bit of trouble.

That's good news, David - I never had any serious issues with any of my x (ex-)NEXes either (apart from that stubborn, big dust speck in the EVF on my NEX-7 :cautious: ).
Mind sharing how you've charged your batteries on the road?

Wow, what a trip David! Was this part of an organized group or solo? About how many miles?

This OAproda charger, hooked up to this Anker 40W, 5-port USB charger. It was great to be able to use just one AC wall socket to charge multiple devices.

I was solo. Group rides just aren't my cup of tea. And according to my GPS, I rode 3,113 miles (5010 km).
