AFAIK there isn't a Mac version of Playmemories, only an iOS app. I've used it with success on both my iPhone and iPad to download photos from my NEX-6.

Turn on the hotspot on your camera (Playback/View on Smartphone), then connect to it on your iPad (Settings/WiFi), the launch PlayMemories Mobile on the iPad and copy the images you want into your Photos app. Works very well.

Download play memories app from the app store.
Once you select WiFi transfer, then it will give you WiFi password and WiFi is.

Go to general, connect WiFi, found the ssid and type your password from the camera and you are good to go

I have, but its functionality seemed so limited that I've never used it for "real-world" shooting.
