Hi all ... I got a NEX-6 for Christmas just in time to join this forum and take some shots of our ice storm. It's been a while since I've used a real camera and this one is going to take a lot of getting used to! Hope you enjoy them, and feel free to critique (I need to learn a lot). Thanks .. What is the red thing in the last photo? Is it a golf flag? I like that shot. How are things now there? I'm arriving in TO on January 21 and hope there's things like power in the city. I miss good chicken wings out here in China. Will I be able to find any or has Rob Ford ate them all?
That red thing is a small construction flag covered in ice. Seemed to be quite out of place in the area I was in. Things are close to normal. I think there's a few thousand still without power but everything should be back by the time you're here. There's still the odd outage though. My son was working at a ski resort last night and the power went out and stranded people up on the hill for a while. You should be good for chicken wings. Seems Mr. Ford likes to partake in other "consumables"!
Nice shots... Just one thing... I downloaded the macro one of the icicles and it says it is taken with a Panasonic DMC-ZS7. Not trying to call you out, was genuinely interested in the lens/settings etc you had used because I figured this must have been using a macro lens or extension tubes to get the narrow DoF - but seems they are not applicable to me anyway!
I was playing with the in camera effects on that one. I think it was the vivid setting. None of the shots were processed outside the camera.
Well you'd be right. I took a bunch with my old camera then with my new one after I got it. I assumed that one was with the NEX but I guess I was wrong. I'm not sure exactly, but I think I used apeture priority down to 3.5 and set it to macro. I can't recall exactly though. I took so many shots!
Well you'd be right! Exposure Time: 1/1300 sec F-Number: f/3.3 Exposure Program: Aperture Priority ISO Speed Rating: 100 Macro Mode: Macro Flash: Flash, Compulsory
