Going on a honeymoon in 2 weeks and I don't have a zoom lens that's capable of wide to midrange shots. I have a ton of primes but didn't want to lug around 4-5 lenses. I bought a minolta 35-70 3.5 macro and canon 24mm 2.8.

I think I'm in love with both. They are so sweet on the a7r. Can't believe the quality of the shots.

Did you get the FD24mm? If so, F2 or F2.8
I would love to see some full size shots at say F8 to see edge performance on the A7R :)

From what I have seen on tests there is little difference between the F2 and F2.8 so good choice! :)

I have a FDn 24mm f2.8 that I use on my A7r, and it's my #1 favorite lens. My Flickr page has four images that may give you some insight as to corner sharpness, which I find is very good indeed. The first in my photo stream is the B&W of the bridge which shows the corner sharpness , and the following three. Sorry if you can't see the full image, but let me know if you want to see it any bigger. Only 2 of them were @ f8 or so, the other two were close to wide open.

here is my latest round of a7r/24mm landscape testing, using full width horizontal crops... the fdn 24/2.8 actually doesn't change much on the sides between f/8 and ~f/10, but ~f/10 does make a difference for most other lenses, so i shot everything there.

need to do some CA cleanup on all of those lenses, to really see the potential.

    24mm prime lens comparison

if you look at the 28mm comparisons, they are a big step up from the 24mm stuff, in terms of field curvature issues on the a7r... a lot less CA, for example, and the good 28mm lenses are sharper on the sides than even the fdn 24/2.8 glass is.

deadbear, that cat shot is stunning!

    Great choices.

I also love the Minolta 35-70 Macro. Great colour and contrast, and really nice Bokeh. It even works really well with film!

I have the Minolta 24mm F2.8 but from the samples I have seen I think the Canon is the better choice.
