I'm leaving tomorrow first thing - really excited - never been on a cruise. It's a 'young persons ship', no need to dress formally for dinner etc.

Taking all my kit as it all fits in my sling bag no issues, plus my GoPro with dive housing (going Scuba Diving at one of the stops). I have a smaller bag which takes one body plus 2 lenses I will take on the day trips.

    Any last minute tips?

Pics will follow on this thread in a week :)

Have discovered I can use my inclusive minutes/SMS/data for only £2 per day whilst roaming (I guess the EU is good for something after all!).
As such, I'll do a brief shot-a-day blog for y'all!

So, Day 1... Sat in the Port of Palma, Majorca. Pano of the port and city from the top deck of the ship - the awesome looking old church like building on the right I have no idea what it is, but we drove past en route and I plan to visit it on our return in a week
Also, I want a super yacht!

This was shot with the SELP1650 @16mm F11 1/250 with the pano function, transferred WiFi A6000 to iPhone, auto enhanced in the native app and uploaded via the photobucket app. Pretty easy holiday workflow and one I shall stick to for this week I think (I do have my MacBook Air but only to keep SD cards emptied at the end of the day) - I'm supposed to be spending time with my Wife or something, not editing photos!

    Day 2 - At Sea

Had to be a bit creative with this one as frankly, the sea in all directions is not that interesting!
I also broke my workflow already as this shot was a composite of 2 shots, merged in Photoshop. Both 15 seconds (any longer and the stars move too much due to ship moving!), on the SEL16F28 @ F2.8 one ISO100 the other 1600 for the stars.

    Day 3 - Bastia, Corsica

Not massively interesting today, just a shot of the town as we docked.

Nice little place, although somewhat torn between poverty and wealth - run down buildings in awful states of disrepair overlooking the beautiful harbour, was very odd! Pic here of an old building literally right on the harbour...

Day 4 - Florence and Pisa, Italy

Great day, we forked out for the excursion to take us to both cities in one day rather than worry about getting around ourselves.
Sooooo many good pics, I'll just share this panoramic showing from the left to right the only bridge not bombed in WWII, Palazzo Vecchio Church, The Cathedral (at one time the largest in the world), and the Santa Croce Church (one of very few Catholic Churches in Italy not looked after by the Vatican - some rich family wanted their own and it is now Government maintained!).
    00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000088_zpsd2xfag3k.

And the Leaning Tower, it really leans! Looks like it might actually fall over!

Day 5 - Nice and Monaco

So again we took the excursion what with trying to do 2 cities in one day.
Nice is OK, but a little bland when you do it back to back with Monaco!!

    Pic here of Nice's port...

Now regulars here will know I am a car fan, and so Monaco is like my Mecca! I've been once before as a teenager but this time didn't disappoint. We started in the old town which overlooks Monte Carlo and the F1 circuit - it's beautiful up there and we stopped in a lovely café for lunch after seeing the midday changing of the guards outside the Princes residence (he was home which is unusual for a weekend - but changing of the guard happens regardless).
We then headed down to the main attraction! We drove about 1/2 the F1 circuit before stopping at Casino Square and walking about for a while - this is AN EXPERIENCE! Car fan or not, if you are ever on the South coast of France (or North of Italy for that matter), you have to come hear just to bask in the incredible atmosphere.

Pic here of the Mrs and I in the gardens next to Café de Paris...

P.S. Really making friends with the SELP1650 - taking almost all shots with it, only occasionally using the SEL35F18 for the odd bit of DoF.

Pretty shot of the town...rolling hills in the background...and the sky & white clouds really make the scene for me.

    Day 6 - Toulon, France

So we didn't actually do anything in Toulon, we went 30 mins down the coast to La Capte and went scuba diving :)
I've been once before, but the Wife never has.
The boat was 30 mins late, and then a further 30 min delay as they messed up where they gangway was supposed to be - as such we missed the specially booked slot I had arranged in the morning (as normally they do novice dives in the afternoon), but luckily they were super nice and took us out after the morning boat run on a private trip just for us - very nice of them and much appreciated!

So pics, as mentioned in the first post, took the GoPro, really impressed with what it can do, and that the housing it comes with is good for 40m diving - came out dry as a bone and really easy to use underwater.

We actually went with separate instructors, so sadly no shot of us together, but we did a selfie as we walked out onto the beach to make up for it :)

    Day 7 - Barcelona, Spain

Final day, we arrive back in Palma first thing in the morning.
We did the tourist thing and bought hop on/off tickets for the open top bus. Worked out pretty well, it's about a 2 hour circuit if you just sit on it.
We hopped off and did Las Ramblas, which really is just a nice shopping street (I personally didn't get the hype!).
We then hopped off again at Sagrada Família, which was, well, WOW!
The most bizarre building I have ever seen! Started in 1882 with Gaudí becoming involved 1 year later it became his most famous works - he died in 1926 and the building was far from complete. In the years that have followed construction continues to this day, funded only by anonymous donations. The result is a crazy blend of 19th/20th/21st Century architecture and construction the likes of which are not seen anywhere else.
The pics I took show primarily the old parts, as honestly the newer concrete and glass facades are boring! Regardless, this place is a must see if you are ever in Barcelona!

Thanks for showing us the (slow) progress on Sagrada Família, José. I hope he doesn't mind my linking to it, but RAWFA posted a few shots here of some of Gaudí's other works around town. I think Gaudí stands alone in his world.
