    Hi Folks.

I have come back to NEX having previously owned the origional NEX 3,it was a good camera but having so many I had to shed some and the lovely NEX 3 was one of the 'Victims'.

Could someone assist me with some settings on my new 5R?

I have read the manual (as such) but I'm not sure about a couple of things.

    1. Is phase detection and contrast set automatically? I notice in the settings that 'Phase detection AF area' is off. The reason for asking is that I am finding the 5R a bit sluggish focusing in low light.

    2. Does sensor cleaning start automatically on startup/shutdown or do I have to do it manually?

    Many thanks

    Adam

    1. Yep, there's no way to turn PDAF off. But it doesn't make a huge difference anyway. The PDAF area is just to tell the camera to use a specific phase detection pixel.

    2. Again, yes, it's done automatically every time you shut down the camera (you even can hear it). But again, it's not all that effective, so you'll still have to clean it yourself now and then.
