I still admire my longtime traveling companion, the Nikon FE - nice and rugged, everything you need, nothing you don't. An absolute masterpiece among 35mm SLRs, IMHO.

Is the A7 in the same ultimate league? It definitely is not as pared down! (I don't know that any digital body ever could be.) It took me all of 30 seconds to figure out all the knobs and dials when I first laid hands on that old Nikon - after an entire evening with the A7 I feel like I know about 10% of it - and that's coming from another high-end Sony! The ergonomics are also going to take a bit more getting used to.

Two very different beasts to be sure but I can't help notice how similar they are in overall size. (Of course, the A7 could get pared down quite a bit more with the right lenses.)

One thing that is NOT going to take a lot of getting used to? Having all my old wide angle lenses behave like wide angle lenses again! I'm loving the shallow DoF as well!
