Hey guys, I finally figured out why the wifi connection at our hotel seemed inop' (Torrent application running full time, DUH). Quit Torrent, now internet works fine, which enables you to share some family vacation pictures with you. Being between NEX bodies (an interim C3 sleeping in my mailbox right now, before I get another 7 unit), I took the recently acquired Fuji X10 as sole imaging tool for this trip. Boy am I glad I did, what a swell little camera. It has a super useful zoom range and bright lens (28-112 @F2-2.8), boasts superb IQ, and looks and feel sleek enough that I regard DSLR shooters with a little smirk. Once the shot is taken I slip the X10 back inside my ski jacket and resume skiing or whatever, while they're hobbled by their giant cameras...

Anyway here are a few X10 photos, massaged a bit in Snapseed since I don't have PS running on my husband's laptop:

    cec743e7d5bb871d00f4abfc65f5e932_7f8.
The X10 is even capable of some subject isolation, which in my mind makes it a very special compact camera.

    8e1e86f050c478446e37c05e5d0417f8_7f8.
The detail and IQ seems just a little too good for a small sensor cam, and the Fuji colors are... well, they're Fuji.

    Compact camera ?? Seriously ?

Playing with the Pro Focus mode I use quite a bit, and that works rather well IMO

First attempt at skiing at the widely acclaimed School of French Ski. Many foreigners also send their kids as the teaching there, starting at age 4, is exceptionally progressive, fun giving and smart. Kids are auditioned during the first session, and only those who show interest and a bit of natural balance may sign in (the others may try again, and usually succeed, the next year).

Maybe I missed the discussion in another thread, but why are you going back to the 7 from the 6?

Because the TriNavi controls are miles ahead of the 6 in usabity. And against all odds I do like the 24mp chip quite well. The 6 is an awesome camera... That I never bonded with. I'm sentimental jello and I need to love my camera. The 6 is totally capable, but I can't fathom *feelings* for it. I did like the 7 in all it's uniqueness. So I'm trying the SEL 35, and if I like it I'll get another 7...

Yeah, it was a hard choice for me between the 6 and 7. I ended up with the 6 largely because of price, but then I found a 7 for just a little more than the 6 I bought...doh!!! Anyways, I'd like to try a 7, but then I'd be afraid I'd like it more then I'll have to sell my 6 to fund the 7. It's a vicious circle. Maybe I'll be happy with the 6 and wait for the FF offerings coming up later this year.

    Some nice photos here Claire!!!
Looks like a lot of fun :)

Yeah, wasn't aware that you'd decided on another 7 too...
How come you sold your 7 in the first place? 'Cause of the slow AF?

So, you'll be buying a camera just for a lens? I always thought it was the other way around normally :D

Nick I sold my 7 on a whim because I couldn't locate a SEL 35 in stock with any reliable seller with good return policy. Figured I'd get an X-E1 instead. But then I tried an X100 and realized none of the Fuji X kids offer real time exposure preview, which is a total deal breaker for me. The SEL 35 is now in stock, so I bought a little C3 cheap not to remain NEXless, and if I like the 35, I'll by a 7 again !

Damn, I liked the idea of the x100, but the live view thing is important, hence why I cancelled my Pentax K01 order. Excellent pics Claire, Marla looks to be having a fab time, very Jet Set in pink! The black and White from the x10 are gorgeous.

Oh the X10 is quite the shit, allright ! The lack of true reliable exposure preview is not SOOoo bad on the X10, the LCD is way closer to final exposure than it is on the X100. Not 100% faithful as NEX, but close enough to give you a pretty tight and reliable ballpark.
I tried a friend's X100 and totally hated it. The thing is so slow/clunky/noisy I thought it was dysfunctional, but my friend assured me it's its normal behavior, yikes. Yes there is a certain special look to the files, but NOT anything that justifies putting up with the camera's antics. I know it's a camera most folks love to hate, but I just hated loving it, lol.

That is good to know. Saves me Lookng on amazon every day to check the price. I'm still keen on the x10/v1 for a compact but think maybe I have that compact already in the C3 and Sigma 30. Will see what happens to prices in th next few weeks. I love a good deal even if I don't really neeeeeed another camera :)

    Great photos.

I miss France, I would really like to go back to western France for a week or two.

Alas, the trip from California is quite expensive...

Hey, that makes to of us, I'd kill to go to Klifornia ;) actually we plan on doing so when our girl is grown a bit, do far we've limited our trips to the eastern states for travel duration reasons. We do have a house in Brittany and its the most photo opportunities rich place that I know !! I posted about on my blog in August, that was m4/3 pics but you might want to check them out.

Great looking trip and photos. It is so nice to be able to put camera back in your pocket after taking a shot. The main reason I bought the Nex.

Our house is 15 min from Quimper ! If you check the blog post you should recognize a lot of places. And I agree it's certainly a fabulous area for picture opportunities.
