First outing with the A9

Just trying to get used to using this camera. The jpeg's out of it look really nice on my monitor. I hope you can enjoy these as much as I do here at home. I'll post a few pics from the Huntington Beach Concours I went to today. Lighting was a mix of sun and shade, no clouds out to speak of at all.

There was a large variety of makes there today. I felt for the guys showing, the trees were shedding pollen like crazy today.

You know you've been hanging around too many classic cars when you recognize the majority of hood ornament shots. I don't know what the first one is, the the next 3 are Packard, Packard, Cadillac.

That's an interesting touring rig. Don't recognize the brand, seems to have a longitudinal V4 engine.

I just googled Motus MST. Seems to be a two year only motorcycle. I didn't really look at it too closely as I'm not allowed to get excited about motorcycles now.

Very nice photos! I spent some time looking at the first, amazed at the dynamic range you and/or the camera have captured there, with that sky-reflecting polished metal not at all burnt out. Super.

And yes, the hood ornaments are wonderful, for vintage stuff --- but I wouldn't want any of them between my ribs!

Yeah, I had never heard of it either. But at US$31,000, it’s not ever going to see the inside of my garage anyway.

I will admit to just letting the camera do its thing this time out. I was pleasantly surprised those shots of the BIG RED car turned out as well as they did. The back lighting was really tough since the sun wasn't all that high in the sky yet. I think it did well for the conditions. Gives me faith that I may still get acceptable images inspite of my, um, questionable techniques, shall we say?

I can't say enough about the lens too. As you can see from the EXIF data I was all over the focal length spectrum.

The Gent with his back to the camera never was able to put down his polishing cloth. That's his black '67 427 Coupe to the right. The eucalyptus trees on the far side of the road there were raining down pollen all morning. He'd no sooner get it wiped down and he'd have to start all over again. Others were parked right under the trees in a different part of the park. Those people just gave up and hoped the judges would take the trees into account when it came time to judge their cars. I don't think I could have put up with that knowing how long it takes to clean a car for a concours. The pollen was everywhere!

I remember Chevrolet shipping some to Germany in the mid-60's and letting some Porsche factory drivers take them out for a spin at Nürburgring. Their verdict? "Undriveable!"

I had a math prof in JC that had a mid-60's 'vette. He called it his plastic truck. While the early ones were not the best handling cars, they looked pretty nice IMO. I grew up next door to a '60 dual quad car that got changed to an FI car, triple black, so I'm kind of prejudiced I will admit. My brother is working on a '63 and has a fully restored chassis with all the latest stuff on it, including disc brakes all around. When finished it should be a pretty nice hot rod to cruise around in as he's not restoring the body much, leaving it 'patina'd' as they say.
That Orange one had a Maroney sticker in the windshield with a price of $92k on it, so they're not for the everyday man like the old ones were, kind of.
Tino - I'm more than pleased with the way things are going with the camera. My frugality is paying off big time.

My brother went to school with a guy that became a Packard restorer of note. He did a car similar to the one posted above.
He put polished stainless spokes in the wheels and it really 'woke the car up'.
