    Thanks guys.

I used the kit 18-55mm OSS lens. My aperture was f22, ISO 100 and variable shutter based on how many artillery shells burst I wanted to capture. The last few shots I panned with the tripod to fill the frame due to the fireworks shooting up in one area only.

I really like fireworks shots and the ID4 always gives photographers plenty of opportunities to get really good shots like these, nice images jton, excellent job.

Fireworks taken with my NEX in the Docklands, Melbourne

and one where I blown the highlights

So far this has been my most stressful photo excursion this year. It was freezing, it was raining, the venue was packed and I hardly had any room to move and I got a parking fine at the end of the night.

Plus that post on the bottom left hand corner is really distracting

Fantastic shots Phoenix! I like that you included the Melbourne cityscape to give the fireworks a sense of scale and relevance. The post isn't too bad... easy cloned-out if it really annoys you.

    What was the occasion??

    Thanks!
Melbourne’s city council is trying to promote the otherwise lifeless part of Melbourne known as the Docklands by various attractions and events including a giant Ferris wheel that doesn’t work and has been out of order ever since it was erected 8 years ago, and Restaurants that are closed for dinner service Friday evening,. One of the “events” is a fireworks display every Friday during the month of July (the middle of bloody winter!!) to draw in crowds to the Docklands.
So there we were (me and my best friend) huddled in a corner, couldn’t move to get a better shot or a chance to frame better with the amount folks taking photos, being drenched in heavy rain, and freezing conditions.
You're right on the money regarding including the cityscape to give a scaled effect on the images, and to be able to pp the offending post on the lower left hand corner, I just wished I got it when I took the images, but considering the rain and limited maneuverabilty it tuned out alright :)

Phoenix does fireworks! Very nice, fireworks over water are always cool. I'd leave the post in, it lends a bit to the scale of things. :)
