I recently had a business trip to Istanbul and had the good fortune to be able to squeeze in a couple of days for myself after the work was over. One of the places that I visited was a brass workshop -- probably one of the few where they still make things the old fashioned way. Those guys worked hard! It was amazing to watch. One of the guys was picking up hot molds with his bare hands and I could barely stand to touch them. I guess he had just built up a tolerance to the heat over time.

Anyway, I took a bunch of pictures and this is a sampling. I hope you like them. (Shot with the A6000 with the 16-70 and 35mm/1.8).

Thanks everyone. It was very interesting. There had been 3 people who worked at this particular workshop and one of them recently passed away. The guy in the last picture is retiring at the end of the year, leaving only the other person to do the work on his own. It's not clear how long he may continue operating the business.

Nick and ggibson, thanks for the comments about the processing. Actually I suspect there was less than you might think. The environment was very interesting. I underexposed to protect highlights and adjusted white balance in camera to make the images a little warmer. Then I made some typical adjustments to shadows, highlights, etc. in post. I think I actually forgot to process the eighth image, so that is the way it looked out of camera.

There are some more images mixed in here if you are interested. https://flic.kr/s/aHsk5UUeJV

wonderful place, great eye, great job getting that look (even if it was close to reality). I'm gonna look for Entropic Remnants (on FujiXSpot and PL) to show him these, I know he'll enjoy them immensely!

First picture is amazing, really!!! Very good post-processing!

As someone from Istanbul, I think you did a gread job finding these places... I do not even know where they are located, I thought this brass work does not exist anymore!!

    Congrats, again!
