The autumn colors are just beginning to put on a show here in northern Michigan. As I drove today, Individual neighborhoods of color were apparent, popping from the still predominantly green landscape. Pulling over to check out one of these colorful outcroppings, it occurred to me that while Fall typically carpets the landscape with dramatic vistas each year, there has to be billions of indvididual, unique Fall portraits hidden in plain sight and available for us all to document. This is one of those portraits.

After a rain, fall color looks freshly painted on.

I could say I had to bundle up and drink hot apple cider to catch this autumn shot today, but that would be misleading. It couldn't have been any easier. Mid 60's, a bottle of water and walking the dog led past this spot. A maple tree of some kind, dropping leaves and in a hurry to get the season underway.

It's so much fun and nice to get back into panoramas and bokehramas ... until I get to the merging part and my laptop craps itself and I am waiting hours for progress. Well here are some examples made today:

WOF03431-Pano.JPG
ILCE-7C    Nikon E Series 50mm f 1.8 (Nikon F)    50mm    f/2.0    1/50s    ISO 100

The entrance to The Basins Park, home of lots of ducks and swans, it's starting to gather up lots of leaves. Panorama of 25 images at 50mm f 2 (Nikon E Series 50mm f 1.8 lens) for an effective (cropped) 141 Megapickles.

ILCE-7C    E 28-200mm F2.8-5.6 A071    200mm    f/5.6    1/500s    ISO 800

The autumn fog is rolling in more often rolling in these mornings, with the ground still warm and the air getting cooler, between 03:00 and 10:00 there's plenty of very beautiful opportunities, especially when the lights break through the trees and light shafts light up the steam/fog, I am still struggling to capture the fog as natural and moody as it truly is. I can't remember the number of shots (Lightroom seems to have forgotten it after passing the image through Topaz DeNoise AI and Photoshop for cloning out a sign and a rubbish bin) but it was shot with 200mm f 5.6 setting for an effective (cropped) 201 Megapickles.

ILCE-7C    E 28-200mm F2.8-5.6 A071    200mm    f/5.6    1/4s    ISO 50

The water ponds are making steam that rolls over the top of them with a mystical and moody look that is hard to capture in stills ... the reeds have gone orange/brown while some of the trees are still turning yellow. I will start paying more attention to the weather predictions in the hopes of capturing more foggy mornings. Panorama stitched of 21 images at 200mm f 5.6 for effective (cropped) 223 Megapickles.

A Mom and her adolescent stare at me just before the sun came up this morning. I caught them out of the corner of my eye as I drove past, did 2 u turns and parked directly across from them to shoot this out of my drivers window. They probably thought I was nuts. Fortunately it was early enough that there wasn't any other traffic to spook them before I got the shot. Their summer reddish brown coats almost gone here, replaced by a drab grayish brown camouflage to better blend in the woods when the leaves finally fall. We are a little behind schedule for the trees shedding their leaves this year, the product of a warm October so far. There is some chilly weather a week or so out however which should help to move the process along.
