That's a sweet-looking setup, Mike. And it clearly gives you great results.

Very nice pictures, the lens provides a beautiful bokeh in the background.

    Thanks.

From what I can tell, at f/2.8 it's roughly in the same ball park in IQ as my FD85L in a much smaller package. You can't be f/1.2 for indoors, but as a walk around lens I'm really happy. I need to do a couple more tests, but I might be letting go of my Olympus 45mm f/1.8 now...if I think I can survive without its instant focusing.

Here's a few images I took using the Contax G 90mm on a Sony A7 II with the techart adapter. Overall, I found the lens to be excellent and love the small form factor but the adapter to be mediocre at best. The autofocus is adequate for when you step down but completely off wide open and doesn't seem to be easily adjustable to be fixed (the method in the instructions don't seem to work). I'm not sure the small wheel is the best way to adjust focus but seems better than the alternative Metabones and Kipon options and is adequate. The picture of the USNS Rainier was adjusted for lighting since metering isn't perfect with this setup and was autofocused. The two pictures of the crane were out of camera and I think I manually focused both of those. Enjoy!

I am surprised to hear that eg it is a slow af, noisy adapter but af is very accurate. There was some posts in dpr to adjust it:

I never updated the adapter or mess with af except the f/25 mf...

After reading about your experiences, I went ahead and did a couple of tests to see if the adapter would do better autofocusing in better lighting and indeed it does. I do think it's better at autofocusing at close range under bright light conditions versus suboptimal conditions (e.g. darker or targets further in the distance.) There is some natural softness at f2.8 but very sharp at f8. A couple of photos where I used some minion toys to test focusing. They were lined up at a rough 45 degree angle. First photo was at f2.8 and the second at f8.

Incidentally on the subject of focusing. The techart adapter+A7rII's PDAF successfully nailed focus in very low light at f/5.6 using the android smart remote wifi app.

Had you asked me a month ago, I would have told you that I was through buying legacy lenses. What can I say? Maybe it was Mike's photo of that Bonneville, but I find myself with a Contax G90 f/2.8 and a Techart adapter.

Some samples, all shot with medium-spot autofocus using the Techart adapter, wide open on an A7. The shots are raw with very minimal processing in Lightroom, mostly just straightening and a little exposure/contrast adjustments:

I read somewhere that Henri Cartier Bresson used to go photograph ducks to test a lens. So here's some waterfowl for you:

Here's what it looks like compared to the Sony 35 & 55:
    Contax Comp.

I can fit all three lenses, the A7, and an iPad mini in a little padded shoulder bag I've had for years. This makes me happy. :)

Handheld, I autofocused on this ridge, ~8 miles (~13 kms) from where I was shooting.

    Grizzly Peak.

This is a SOOC 100% crop of that shot.

    Small.
