So I haven't posted in while as I needed a short break from photography after having a weekend away and being dissatisfied with the shots I took. Anyway last night I had a visitor come through my window, A rather large Christmas beetle ( about 40mm long). So I whipped out my nex6 with my yashica 60mm macro and took this shot. this is straight out of camera raw with only a slight exposure adjustment in lightroom.

Had no idea there was such a thing as a Christmas beetle.

They are very common err around Christmas ;D (in Australia) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anoplognathus_pallidicollis
Put the bugger in the fridge for a few minutes to slow him down as I don't have a ring flash or such and have poor lighting in my room, afterwards it was back to the garden heh

Nice capture and shallow depth of field!!!
Only thing that "bugs" me (no pun intended lol :D ) is the light (flash ?) reflection on its back

Hey cheers, Yah the DOF is crazy thin as I shot this nearly wide open. Hard to tell what aperture as the control is on the adapter. The lighting is pretty off as you say, tried various things to try to even it out but didn't have much luck. At one point I even had a low wattage lead light with a plastic bag in front of it as a sort of MacGyver diffuser haha
