I've been using a sling but want both hands free when covering rough ground, so have got a Cotton Carrier Skout.

The rig hangs off a boss screwed into the tripod thread.
Does the brains trust think suspending it from the camera body is asking for trouble?
The lens and TC are about 1.7kg and the body about 650g.
Or must it hang from the lens foot?

It seems to me perhaps it would not hug your body as well when using the foot - maybe. And that there might be more strain on the mount. But I am certainly not an engineer. Does the maker have any comments or guidance about it?

Probably a bigger issue for me is that my not-so-flat tummy might get in the way and it would not be comfortable, but there is a solution for that.

Yes, it doesn't hug the body so well foot mounted.
I'll email the maker and see what they have to say. Thanks for the suggestion.

The right tummy curve could increase the wearing comfort ;)

I came up with this idea a few years ago. The camera lens fits quite nicely into a water bottle running holster.

Very secure and gets out of the way. I normally don't take the flash with me on these hikes but I did for some reason this time.

I use this with all the dividers removed. I like a little more protection and a couple of small pockets for batteries and the TC if it is off the lens. It is a HEX Sling in Ranger Black.
