Hello all, back after a lengthy absence. Hopefully I can start posting more.

I had a FL 55/1.2 come up locally for a good price. Never owned anything faster than 1.4's and with the type of shooting I do I figured I may as well finally enter the world of very fast lenses. So here are some examples from my a7 over the last couple of weeks. I am still learning the lens, and will be for the next few months. But so far I find the sharpness very usable wide open, not that sharpness is that important but I was surprised at how acceptable it was at a 1.2 aperture. CA is incredibly well controlled....another pleasant surprise. Overall this lens is built like a tank and is turning out to be a very nice performer. Hope you enjoy.

Thanks Amin. My daughter Chloe always helps my photos look better. :)

Nick, thank you as well. I'm quite taken with the bokeh from this old FL, it is very interesting as you say. Canon was doing wonderful things with metal and glass so long ago. It is a privilege to be able to use this lens today.

I went to a swap meet at a local camera store this past weekend. I took a few lenses to sell/trade and ended up grabbing a Canon FD 35/3.5 for only $10. Not to shabby. I also had many discussions with people concerning the use of old lenses on digital cameras. This is certainly a renaissance time for old glass to make a come back but my experience at the swap meet talking to people shows a huge lack of knowledge on how to make it work. I tried to educate people as best as I was able and had lots of fun conversations.

While I was there I captured a few more images with my FL 55/1.2 and a7. Hope you enjoy.

Fun shots. Not all are sharp, but at 1.2 that is to be expected.

    Still, some nice work.

Woodworks, glad you like that shot. It is actually a pretty heavy crop which I don't normally do. But I found that removing all the distracting background bits for this particular photo worked quite well.

Nick, don't be to jealous. That swap meet is a once a year event, so it doesn't happen to often. There is talk of making it twice a year which would be nice.

Ah Dave, your usual 'fun shots' response. And I actually LOL'd at your not sharp comment. To in anyway criticize wide open photos on a 1.2 lens, even in passing as you did, is a certified troll post. And actually if look at where I placed the focal plane for each shot you will see that they are MORE then sharp, especially for a 1.2 lens. This lens wide open is easily sharper then my Rokkor 1.4's wide open. This is of course remembering that sharpness is way over rated and matters more in forums then it does in the real world. Again, there is no Pulitzer Prize for sharpness. But please feel free to view the images up close on my flickr page and see how 'sharp' they are in regards to where the focus is.

The last pic, with the guy holding the Rolleiflex, produced a lump in my throat.....regretted selling my 2.8F years ago.

Mus, I know well the feeling of getting rid of gear and then regretting it later. If it is any consolation they guy in the photo was actually trading the Rollei in for a lens. He will probably feel the way you do in years to come.

Yeah...but I think he traded it for a really nice Zeiss medium format lens. There was some other stuff involved as well but I didn't watch the whole deal.

That bike shot is crazy! I shoot a lot of local Crit races, manual focusing on fast moving targets is not easy, nicely done on that one!

Nick, Tx, I'm pleased you both like that shot as I am quite proud of it. To be honest there was more luck involved then technique. I was waiting on a street corner since the sun was doing some interesting things with a church tower and I needed it to drop a little lower so the sky wasn't so blown out. As I was shooting a little of this I was also watching the ebb and flow of people and vehicles around me. When I noticed the guy on the bike flying thru the intersection I immediately brought the camera up, but not to my eye. I held it out in front of me and tried to follow the rider on the rear LCD while quickly turning the focus ring. So I am panning, focusing and composing all at once. As soon as the focus peaking lit him up in yellow I hit the shutter. It all happened in probably three seconds or less. I wasn't expecting it to be as clearly focused on him as it is but when I got home and saw it I knew it was a keeper.

Ok, a few more shots. This time we have a family member and a friend of the family from an outing we took this weekend. Both girls are twelve years old and enjoyed having their picture taken. I will also throw in one more photo from the Downtown walk I took a few days ago. Again, a7 and FL 55/1.2.

A few more from my downtown walk. Oh, and a doll. And two more from Maddie. Hmmmm, seems to be all B&W this time.
