Showcase Canon 24mm f2.8 FDn

My first day out with a newly acquired Canon FDn 24mm f2.8 lens on my A7r. All photos were taken yesterday, and I feel I'm so happy with this 24mm, that I can at last stop looking.

Other than the shipwreck image, there was very little PP done on the others.

Love the first shot of the SS Ayrfield. Of all the iconic things to shoot in Sydney this humble little old wreck is easily the most interesting.

Thanks for the comments. Most of my weekend photos were just while out walking, but I made a point to visit the shipwreck on the way home for a dedicated shot.

I'm sorely tempted to get the FDn 28mm f2.8 as well. Based on my experience with the 24 alone, however I already have the FE 35mm and not sure how much use the 28mm would actually get.

As humble a lens the FD 50mm f1.8 is, I grabbed one of those last week in mint condition. I think it's also great. Being an original early 1970's model with chrome nose, it is a bit on the heavy side though.

You sure know how to wrangle great shots from that lens!

While you're considering other options, you may want to check out the FD 20mm f/2.8 as well. I love mine, and it's clear that wide angle shots are well within your comfort zone.

Saturday was a big day. Drove down to Lake Illawarra, walked around Windang Island, drove back to the Sea Cliff Bridge and walked around there for a couple of hours, and back to Homebush Bay before finishing up.

Sounds like a long day, I drive over the seacliff bridge often for work, it certainly is a beautiful spot. Not sure if my offsider would be too keen for me to stop and take some pics though

Got this to replace a Sigma 24/2.8 that died. Effective deterrent from going FF as I don't shoot at 24 much, except when it's the widest end of a zoom.

Wow, these look great! My A7ii with the 28-70mm kit zoom is on the way. I hope the adapter arrives before the camera. All I can think of now us mounting up that FD 24/2.8! I have the 28/2, 50/1.4, 85/1.8, and 135/2.5 too. Excited!

As a warning to anyone shopping for a FD24f2.8, you need to be aware that this lens is approaching a time in it's life that the bushings in the body that control the lens movement are failing on some and will probably fail on all.

If there is play in the focusing ring or it rattles, that's a sign.

I suggest you read this thread
