Showcase Canon 20mm f2.8 FD

Hey, this is a new image thread, cool! I picked this glass up a few weeks ago but due to slow shipment and busy schedules I just got a chance to try it out. I didnt even know this focal length existed in FD until about a month ago! I think this lens and I will get along great. Great weight, easy focusing (after 10ft its infinity). Good stuff.

Here's a few more. I'm normally a 35-85 range kind of shooter but this lens is a lot of fun. More fun then than the 24 We have had strange skies here as of late. Its grey and cloudy but not raining which is odd for south Florida. I pushed the colors all over the place on these.

It's nice too for the f2.8 speed. I haven't used any FD zooms yet tho. The primes are too much fun

I just picked up one these 20mm lenses, intending to use it mainly for astrophotography, but since it fits neatly between my SEL1018 and SEL2470, I thought I'd give it a go during daylight hours.

It seems fairly useable for landscapes.

And its distortions are easily corrected using Lightroom's built-in corrections for Canon's EF 20mm lens.

Well, found one for 160€. Gonna test it tomorrow. If it is good on my A7 I'll buy it and bring it for sure with me to Cape Town !

Got one today ! Nice piece of glass. Tried Canon EF 20 profile in LR. It partially does the job, I added a minus 8 distortion to get less outward curves. Just my taste so far but I am keen to get your feedback.

Thanks for the info. I just tried your suggestion on the hotel and bridge images above, and I honestly can't say that it made a significant difference to my eye. But perhaps it might on other kinds of images.

Maybe not. But there is a lack of verticals with this profile. It is easily corrected manually.
My only concern with this lens so far is the 72 mm diameter, all my filters are smaller...

You could always try to do your own profile. It's not that difficult, though it is a bit laborious. The filter size is a non-issue for me. You can't really use a polarizer on a lens this wide, and I guess I can live without a ND filter on this particular lens (or use welder's glass). I never use filters for "protection."

I'm afraid I don't have any brick walls handy, so I hope that my garage door will do. Straight out of the camera (raw image/Lightroom default settings)

Not bad straight out of camera. I was concerned that it would be more moustachioed, but it's decent. But god bless Lightroom

It is great. Canon EF 20 profile is indeed pretty accurate. All that I can say. Used it a lot these days in Cape Town and frankly speaking 20mm wide is needed with such landscapes...good companion for the A7
