I was out shooting the a7 with 85mm 1.4 on on it. Things were working fine at the park, five minutes down the road and the curtain fails. There was no dropping or trauma just broken camera. I am a working photographer and this camera seen a lot of use but nothing that should result in this malfunction. Anyone have a similar problem?

That sucks. My A7 has an image count of 19225 and still works. I've never seen someone else here or on dpreview reporting this problem, so I guess you just have had bad luck.

To qualify what I mean by a lot of use; bought used in good condition 1 year, 100,000 (approx) shots ago. It's certainly paid for itself. Any recommendations on a repair company? Is Sony the best bet?

Depends on where you are. On dpreview I read a lot of bad experiences with the company (Precision... something) that services Sony cameras in the USA. Maybe you'd be better off by buying another used A7, shouldn't be too expensive these days.
