After reading so many stories of people recommending the Minolta Rokkor 50 mm lens I decided to get myself on Ebay and order one up. I got a MC 50mm f1.7 for a bargain price and it arrived yesterday in great condition. I make most of my living as a photographer from botanical photography these days so thought I'd start with it there and since it was quite a bright day I went to the glass houses of Edinburgh botanical gardens. I got some good shots and I'm very impressed with the lens. For my botanical photography I like to generally work with wide open apertures to give myself a very small depth of field. I like to really play with the textures and tones you get as the focal point blurs outwards with dramatic bokeh. So most of these were shot at f1.7 and I didn't use extension tubes for this shoot. All shot with my 5N at 400 ISO hand held.
