A friend and I visited Boaco from where we live in Jinotega. Boaco, Nicaragua, is the capital of a department, which is equivalent to a state in the US, but which is more like a county seat populaton-wise. It's in the hills east of Lago Colcibolca, otherwise known as Lake Nicaragua, about an hour and a half from Managua, the capital of Nicaragua. My Nicaragua friend and I wanted to see more of the country we're living in. Boaco1 by rbb_56, on Flickr[/IMG] This is one of the streets. Boaco2 by rbb_56, on Flickr[/IMG] I think there's a story here -- something about a mayor of Boaco getting his start in life as a shoe shine boy. Boaco3 by rbb_56, on Flickr[/IMG] And where it's too steep for roads, Boaco has stairs. Boaco6 by rbb_56, on Flickr[/IMG] Sunset, looking west, local streets in Boaco. BoacoElBorbonRestaurant2 by rbb_56, on Flickr[/IMG] New meets old in El Borbon Restaurante. Many pre-Colombian sculptures have been found in the departments of Boaco and Chontales.
