A friend and I visited Boaco from where we live in Jinotega. Boaco, Nicaragua, is the capital of a department, which is equivalent to a state in the US, but which is more like a county seat populaton-wise. It's in the hills east of Lago Colcibolca, otherwise known as Lake Nicaragua, about an hour and a half from Managua, the capital of Nicaragua. My Nicaragua friend and I wanted to see more of the country we're living in.

This is one of the streets.

I think there's a story here -- something about a mayor of Boaco getting his start in life as a shoe shine boy.

And where it's too steep for roads, Boaco has stairs.

Sunset, looking west, local streets in Boaco.

New meets old in El Borbon Restaurante. Many pre-Colombian sculptures have been found in the departments of Boaco and Chontales.

The upper level cathedral with my friend in front. 16mm lens, no perspective correction.

The other church on the lower level of town. The most famous priest here was from Poland.

Beautiful and colorful! The first street photo is very cool. The street is so steep.
