As I walked closer the perched one repeatedly tipped his head to one side and then the other to check me out. Never had that before. Was it my white beard? The big lens?
The first one is immature; it's not till they're adult that the eyes go red.
This species is one of our smaller raptors. It hovers for some time over grassland waiting to spy prey.
