    Always been curious what the black bird with the yellow feet was. They always seem to remind me of clown feet.

    Any ideas guys.

    Had a bit of a dig too and yep, it's the American Coot... and the "lobed" feet are for running after all - on water! Apparently they need a run-up for take off because their wings are relatively small...

    Honestly I've never seen one actually fly anywhere, but when startled they will run on the water for a quarter mile or more. They're sort of like red & blue footed boobie birds- they can fly, they just don't like to.

    Great info. I have never seen them run on the water, but they do have exceedingly short wings.
