I figured since we have dog pix and cat pix, I'd start Bird pix as I'm a big fan of birds!!! Hope there are others out there. So to start this off, here are a few from my recent visit to the Bronx Zoo.

Really great shots here!
I'm going to have to use my pass at the SD Zoo, even if I have to go it alone.

Do I assume correctly that you used a tripod for these?

Thanks!

With the A7Rii and 100-400mm GM OSS I didn't need to use a tripod/monopod as the camera and lens combination are great at stabilization. The Zoo here won't allow a tripod but they'll allow a monopod. I had to use the monopod with my Canon and 100-400mm.

Birds in captivity are much easier to shoot, with less amount of time to wait and not a lot of room for them to go. The only issue is with people. They scare them away. So if I've waited 15 min for a bird to get acclimated with me, once a group of noisy people come in, that wait is now 30 min. Outside, you need to be very patient. My presence would either scared the birds away that they never come back or they go into hiding. If I wait around an not make any sudden movements, they'll come out to investigate. Usually popping up different locations until they see that I don't want to eat them. Once they are acclimated, they'll appear in the open, still a little nervous but much more comfortable with me. I've waited in a spot for 30 minutes on one spot hoping for their appearance! Since they have space theirs no need for them to return so my wait was basically useless. Sometimes I don't have the time so I resort to cropping photos.

Here are a couple from a local park where I go for walks on Sundays and I didn't have patients due to weather. They are cropped photos.

Had a tough 2 days trying to take some bird shots as I had many that just didn't make it. A Robin, there were quite a few at the park; A female Mallard duck and a Dove looking around for the hawk I couldn't get a good focus on.

Getting better with the a6500 + Sony A 70-300. Unfortunately the geese let these ducks know I was lurking in the bushes, so I had to practice BIF:

Well, can't compete with any of those stunning close-ups! Picked up a new 70-200 f4 G for my A6500 yesterday - my one and only bird photo...
