Yes they were originally decoys for hunting. People started collecting them when I was a little kid, at least the fancy "realistic" ones. On the other hand, people used to make them out of crazy materials like mud-stuffed bags or tires, contraptions you would never mistake for a bird but apparently the waterfowl did not know any better.

Decoys are still used just not made of wood any more.

A7R III, FE400/2.8 & 1.4 TC
In similar light the A7 is running at 12,800 ISO cp half that for the A9 and the dynamic range is noticeably less.
