Remember your first real bike? Without training wheels or Unicorns on it? It wasn't a car, but it was the first time you actually had freedom. You could go just about anywhere, depending on your endurance. Your friend's house 20 blocks away was like just next door. How about the first inner-tube you had to repair? Good thoughts. I think that's why I like to photograph bicycles.

I was saddened the other day when I read a major bike shop chain was closing. They have a store near us that has been a mainstay of my bike needs for a long time. Hate to see them go. There are other bike shops, sure. But these guys were always willing to talk and answer questions, even without a sale at hand. I feel for all the guys that worked there too. Having been laid off twice in my career I know what it's like to be jobless during the Holiday season.
