Anyone tried the Canon EF 85 f1.8 USM + Fotodiox adaptor?
I would be using them on an A7Rii.

    Any opinions on them?

They make a cheaper alternative to other 85mm options (about £300) so I'm thinking of trying them out.

Any other suggestions too? I want to keep it at compact as I can.

I bit the bullet and decided to go for it, WEX have a used one for £170 and the Fotodiox adapter is £75 so £245 is not too much to pay, hopefully be a good lens on the A7Rii, should be reasonably compact too.

I'm still looking for my portrait 85 for my A7Rii. It would be interesting to see how your EF 85 fares. Get some pics coming Paul and one or two portraits would be much appreciated. :)

Unfortunately it will be over 2 weeks before I get to try it as I'm offshore working now. But I'll certainly upload sample pics and my opinion of the lens once I've got it.

Below is with A7R + Canon 100mm which was pretty much mf. 100mm and 85mm are very similar lenses. I had 85mm & 135mm for a while and replaced them with 100mm when I switched to mirrorless cameras. I think 35/85 and 50-55/100 pair better. AF is much better on A7R II with metabones adapter, good in good light and slows down in low light. Both lenses are good, have some fringing compared to 135mm and may not be sharp as the latest Sony lenses (based on dxo report on the 50MP Canon sensor) and do not have the Zeiss microcontrast. You can check photozone reviews for 85mm lens review:

These are Canon 85mm w/ 40D apsc, all wide open:

I've had a change of mind and I'n now getting the Canon 100mm F2 lens not the 85mm.
I'll probably get the 24-70 Sony - Zeiss too so the 100 makes more sense now.
That means I'll have a 15 f4.5, 28 f2, 55 f1.8 and 100 f2 primes and the 24-70 f4 so I can take a set of primes out, the zoom out or the zoom out with the 15 and 100 primes.
Gives me options depending on my mood

100 f/2 is the lens I always recommend, either on a Canon body or A7ii.

EF 85/1.8 USM was my favorite portrait prime on Canon however a large part of it's appeal was the superfast USM focusing. Which may be negated when using an adapter.
It's also the longest length I could use indoors and still get a portrait even in a small room.

But 100/2 is supposed to be equally nice.

Hey, just curious what your impressions are of the Fotodiox and the EF 100mm f/2 combo now that (I assume) you've had it in your possession for a few weeks?

It's fine, the auto focus is useless with this lens and adapter combo but manual focus is a breeze.
The IQ is fine too, since there is no 100mm native prime or even a cheaper option 85mm prime this is a good way to go.
Some of the other adapters (i.e. Metabones ver iv) auto focus with this lens apparently.
