Just a thought - why not merge all these forums together? I'm fairly sure that you've got enough users across the 4 (now 5) forums to rival some of the huge forums out there if you put everything together.

Having one centralized hub for these non-DSLR camera users will probably attract more users as well.

Well, I can't speak about the benefits (or lack thereof) to Amin of your suggestion, Ilya. But as I user I'd prefer to keep the NEX forum separate from the others. Aside from helping to prevent the unfortunate mine's-bigger-than-your's Internet behavior, having to sift through 4 or 5 times as many posts to find the NEX-related items would make this site a lot less useful to me. And after all, if I am interested in reading about those systems, they're just one click away.

This is true, but I believe that a well organized structure will allow for easy navigation and content delivery that is interesting to respective users.

After all, having more participants always generates more content. The hurdles of keeping a community from devolving into a pissing contest should not be an impassable barrier to increasing membership and activity on these forums. Furthermore, the more of a following these boards have and the more exclusive content is posted here, the more capital Amin has to further evolve the website and create a larger presence on the net or whatever he wants to do.

Hell, if you're cynical - the more users being funneled through one site, the more revenue you can get from ads.

I'm not suggesting lumping all these forums into one with the same structure as any one of the current ones. I am suggesting creating a global forum with subsections for all the current forums. This way, the relative structure of all the communities will stay intact while opening up each user base to other community's discussions and content.

Why have 5 different names for forums catering to mostly the same content?

I thought Serious Compacts was the centralised hub for all of the forums, it has sub-sections for MU-43, Sony NEX, Fuji, Leica, Pentax, Samsung, etc.. The original initiating members were also the same initiating members for MU-43, TalkNex, FujiXspot and LeicaPlace and have made these places the way they are, it's just that some members lack interest in other systems or decide to specialise on a certain system hence MU-43, TalkNex, FujiXspot etc..where members can just concentrate on the specific systems.

If anyone is interested in various compacts one can always drop by SC, however if you're just interested in Sony NEX type of photography there's always TalkNex, FujiXspot for Fuji, MU-43 to micro fo...etc...etc..

Agree with David, and to Phoenix's point, these other sites have grown OUT of seriouscompacts, and only when on their own, did the kind of take off (AFAIK)

Agree. I thought that was what the Serious Compacts site was meant for.

I first was a Serious Compact member, and loved it, but jumped on board here when it came available.

    Huh, fair enough.

I never really browsed over to serious compacts.

Perhaps extending forum membership across all 5 forums, then? That would at least make it easier to be part of the other communities.

An additional thought could be to add a "What's Hot" section, featuring hot topics from the other forums.

I've been reading along here but just started a new job and haven't been able to post much...

As Bill said, S.C. has been around a long time, and if you look at the forum index you can see that site includes all of the systems. For a number of reasons, people have more to say on the specific system sites, and I think overall activity and interest would suffer if we were to merge them.

Having a single registration/login across the "network" of sites would be great, but currently I don't have a way to make that happen. All the sites user vBulletin, and there is no reliable software that lets me link them in that way. If there were, I would buy it today with no hesitation.

That being the case, I'd note that as an active member of all five forums (although only limited participation here and at the Leica forum), its really REALLY easy to join all of them and check in from time to time. There's enough common membership across forums that its kind of like one big forum anyway.
