When i was first thinking about purchasing the Sony A7r, there were two things that i was worried about..."Shutter Shake" (which i had heard so much about in video reviews/other forums) and low light performance.

I decided to purchase the camera anyway and give myself some time with it (have 90 days before i can return)

I do shoot in Studio and also do some photo shoots in varying locations but i majority of my photography is Street Photography

Autofocus isn't really a concern as i already knew that i was going to primarily be using legacy manual focus lenses when on the streets.

I wanted to share a couple of images that i took last night on the streets of NYC, these were taken in Raw format and lightly touched up in Lightroom.

Please feel free to share some of your own low light results with your A7R (specifically)

I know the A7 has better low light performance but i would like some examples with A7R and any lenses that you may use

These pics were taken with a Canon 50mm F1.4 LTM with M Mount adapter

Some shots were a bit too noisy for my tastes but i do think it performed well

They all hold my interest, but #3 & 6 especially. My Canon LTM 50mm f/1.4 must be defective, I never get images like that from it. ;)

Thanks :) I'm sure yours is capable

What adapter do you use on your A7 if you don't mind me asking?

Don't mind at all. It's just some cheap, no-name adapter I bought off of ebay back when I was using it on my old NEX-6 with a Russian Jupiter lens. Works fine, though. No light leaks, and after shimming it a little with some aluminum foil, it focuses to infinity exactly.

I use the Vello LA-NEX-LM adapter and it's pretty cheaply made...my lens jiggles a bit when attached to it. :(

I think i might invest in a better one, but don't want to spend too much cash

    some cool pics in there!

if the noise bothers you, dxo pro does a stellar job of cleaning it up.

i think i'm just being hard on myself honestly...i can't blame the pics or camera for anything really.

Thank you for the compliment tho!

I woke up very early this morning and decided to hit the waterfront by my job to see how it performs during those conditions

This camera, and it's amazing manual focus capabilities, were definitely able to handle those as well

I'm truly trying to push this camera to see what it's capable of as far as still imagery

I like the noise, makes the pictures look like old film pictures.

Great stuff. That's a pretty cool sundial. There's one in Gasworks Park in Seattle that uses you as the pointer (I know there's a term for that, too lazy to look it up), which is somewhat amusing for a city where the sun never shines. ;)
