    Hi folks,

Has anyone used/tried the C/Y Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 35-70mm F/3.4 on an A7R.? I have the chance to pick up one up at a great price - and I've read all the kudos about this lens... While it is a tight zoom range, it's what I shoot primarily. As well, while I really like my Nikkor 24-85mm F/3.5-4.5 G ED, I understand optically, the Zeiss 35-70mm may be quite a bit better...?

Anyway - anyone know much about this on an A7R..??

    Thanks!

    - John

You are wonderful - thank you!!! I've been searching for exactly the type of comments/pics you delivered up, but had yet to find those... Thank you so very much!!

Based on the IQ - I think I'm going to move and purchase this lens.

    Again - my thanks!

    Hi Mike!

My thanks - I owe you for that link - THANK YOU!!! Yep - it appears to be an amazing little lens, and others have noted its proficiency at f/8 as being "optimum", but have never seen the Zeiss data you posted....

The reason I'm asking about this lens specifically, is I'm waffling a bit on the SEL FE Zeiss 24-70 f/4, as I don't think that would be any improvement over my Nikkor 24-85 G ED f/3.5-4.5 - except for the inclusion of OSS. And a manual lens I have no issues with - as long as it can resolve to the best the sensor has to offer..?? I do have some excellent Nikkor lenses (for example 17-35mm f/2.8 ED IF AFS, etc..) but - they are HUGE and heavy..

    Anyway - in short??

    My thanks!

    - John

My pleasure, John. I'm in a bit of a dilemma myself about what lens to get next, so I've been scouting the internet pretty hard recently looking for insight. I found a good website with sample photos from a large number of Zeiss lenses. They're taken with many different cameras, but you can get an idea of how the lens renders. The drop down at the top of the page will allow you to select any one of many different Zeiss lenses to view: http://zeissimages.com/lensbrowser.php

    Good luck!

My thanks again to all of you.... It just arrived, and a bit too late to take anything meaningful - BUT - based on what I think I see - this is a simply awesome lens.... @F/8 throughout the range, I can't find anything I dislike.. But, we'll see how it stacks up to the Nikkor primes and zooms...

And oh - here is a quick "porn" shot - taken with my NEX 7 and the FE 28-70 "A7" kit lens.

    My thanks again!
