My initial tests with a voigtlander 15mm showed the top left corner was softer than other corners. I chalked it up to the idiosyncrasies of the voigtlander. Well I just tested the Rokinon 12mm and the top left was softer than the other corners. I'm going to try a non ultrawide lens. Just wondering if you guys would test a few lenses and see how your corners are.

Seems like both are decentered. Try a few other lenses, I'm pretty sure this problem has nothing to do with the sensor. Or, if you don't have any other lenses, specifically focus on the top left corner manually and see if you can get it as sharp as the others.

Ahhh yes that could be it. I'll do as you say and test other lenses. Odd that they would both be decentered.

Decentering is a very common issue, especially on older or very cheap modern lenses. It's just bad luck that both are decentered, and coincidence that both are decentered at the same edge.

Agree with Poki. I read an article that essentially said legacy lenses and pixel peeping don't mix. Older lenses frequently had inconsistencies and oddities that were chalked up to character. The author also pointed out that some of the most famous shots were not that sharp.

Ok so here's what we have:

    b3413d899ba94400b16c89e9a8cb28d8.
    Rokinon 12mm f2 @f4

    3b6546711eab48778b4f9cb671b569a0.
    Canon 50mm f1.4 @f4

    5f46a01ee7834a78acaa9ed38074796e.
    Helios 44-7m 58mm f2 @f4

    7b9e292c336d41e08d7f8fac3e548e1c.
    Sigma min-wide 28mm f2.8 @f4

The top left corner of the Rokinon is definitely soft compared to the rest of the corners and the other lenses.

You can also see in these examples why I love the Canon for it's all around pleasantness, not too sharp not too soft; and the Helios for it's biting center and soft soft edges.
