A very rare bird sighting to share...

    Forgive the IQ as it was a quick grab shot nearing dark before this Female Cardinal flew away.

    I’ve seen bald headed Blue-Jays before but never a bald-headed Cardinal.
    From what I’ve read on the Internet, most talk about it being part of the annual summer ‘molting’ process.
    They normally disappear and become shy / secretive during the summer molting phase, and as a result this condition is rarely seen.

    Brings a whole new dimension to the term “Ugly”…looks like a small vulture !
    And has one long ‘top-knot’ feather sweeping back on top of its head…LOL.
    I wonder if the skin over their whole body is black? I guess it would be…
