Been foggy/overcast/cold here for most of the last week. I've been hoping we'd get some hoar frost and today I got my wish.

Antenna Ball sez... it was frosty yesterday, but this is ridiculous!

    Spiky lilac bushes.

Fuzzy on one side, spiky on the other.

How about a really prickly holly bush?

Nice captures. Don't think I've ever seen spiked frost.

Conditions have to be optimal for spike creation. Get the right mix of moisture, temperture and wind and violá- spiky frost!

I'm a cold country guy but never seen spiky frost. Pretty cool and well photographed.

Thanks claude. It is a fairly recent phenomenon around here. I had never heard of it 10 years ago, this is the third or fourth time since then that I've seen it. Seems to be accelerating in occurance frequency.
