Found an SD card I thought I'd lost the other day, so immediately I went looking for some very specific photos. Originally, for this scene I used the NEX's inbuilt sweep panorama mode and at the time never bothered to stitch together the separate photos I took, so I was very saddened to lose the card. Now, however, I've gone back and done a panorama to fit the scene properly:

    Original 'Sweep panorama' version:

Of course the dark upper right edge on the new one needs some work, but the difference in scope is really significant.

Hm... The central portion of the panorama is the most interesting part. I wonder what, if anything, you'd gain by cropping the edges of the stitched pano to match the sweep, but keep the lake in the lower portion of the image.

Stiching is always better, but for those times when you don't want to go through the time and effort, the built-in panorama mode is very handy.

Either shot is nice, and resulted in a pleasing image.

Might give that a try Woodworks.

I've now ordered a canvas print of these so hopefully they'll turn out nice.

    Here's another I found; it's 131.4 Megapixels, so beware!
