I didn't see this topic covered anywhere. I apologize if it has been. I came from Nikon. Their version of OSS is VR (vibration reduction). The original VR lenses recommended switching VR off when mounted on a tripod. Their second generation VRII lenses did not have to be switched off anymore. Does anyone here know the protocol for the Sony F4 70_200 OSS Lens?

If I recall correctly, the manual/pamphlet suggested turning it off on a tripod unless panning, in which case you'd use Mode 2.

If the protocol is the same as on older stabilized E-Mount lenses, it does not automatically detect whether or not it's on a tripod. So yes, you need to switch it off.

Thanks. Seems to be what I have read elsewhere in the past few days after posting this

Or just flip the switch on the lens itself.
