I just got back from a 3 day visit to Hpa An, Myanmar which is located about a 4 hour drive from Rangoon towards the Thai border. Myanmar is quite a popular destination for photographers but most people tend to go to Bagan, Mandalay and Inle Lake. It is a shame because there are some beautiful places in other parts of the country.

This first photo was taken in the kitchen of a local monastery.

This one after a long walk through the caves at Sadan

This is Kyaut Ka Latt located in a lake just outside Hpa An

These are some of the Kyone Htaw Waterfall located a little further south in Karen held territory.

    Also from the waterfalls...

This was at a Hpa An Pagoda. The kids are looking at a photo I gave them taken with a Fuji Instax

And this was taken on the drive back to Yangon

I will post another set later...

Wow. I always seem to favour your pictures with monks in them, they have a special flavour IMHO.

When we were in Hpa An we met the 'master' of the local monastery (he is actually head monk for the whole area.) He is a Nikon shooter - he has a D810 and one lens a 70-200 2.8 - and he came shooting with us for 2 days. So you will see there are plenty more monk photos to come.

Some more photos from Hpa An.

Shooting in caves is a bit of a nightmare. Massive dynamic range and problems with flare. These first two are from Kawgon cave which is pretty much in the town of Hpa An itself.

This next image is from the much larger Sadan Cave.

And this of the lake just outside the cave.

Fabulous photos and sublime light! Love your waterfall picture and this is from someone who normally hates them with a passion!! Well done :)

robbie, those are some amazing shots. I sometimes do a Google image search when someone posts a travel shot I am not familiar with. Invariably I find a lot of better images (just from the shear #s if nothing else). Your Kyaut Ka Latt shot absolutely stands alone. Nothing I saw quite captures that fairy tale look. Wonderful composition on your part, equaled by the last two shots you shared. Thank you for taking me to Myanmar!
