That time of year again. These were shot with the A7r2 + Minolta Maxxum 200mm 2.8 (manual focus) unless otherwise noted. All JPEG to save myself a day or two editing hundreds of photos. I did use my NEX-7 on some and really noticed a significant difference in JPEG quality. Colors are so much better on the A7r2 - especially with skin tones and yellows in general.

The meet was held at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Beautiful pool and campus but could have went without the 15 degree temperatures and over a foot of snow!

Paired the A7R2 with the FE 85mm 1.8 for these.

The A7R2 is far from the ideal "sports" camera, but is still very usable and the great high ISO performance allows you much flexibility when you have to shoot indoors at 1/1000sec.

Also brought along the 10-18 f/4 for some wide shots. Shot these on the A7R2.

Well shot. Outdoor would have presented its own challenges. ;-)

Anyone you know competing or just there to watch?

For those of you who haven't been involved with a student athlete in Division 1 competition, let me tell you there is not much else that is more exciting than seeing your kid out there competing. I only wish I'd had a lot better camera when my son was going to school.

Excellent set of pictures... high quality sports pix with great timing!

To those who have never tried to take pix at an indoor pool event, fractal is making it look too easy... the water colors, the splash and the variety of colored backgrounds rarely cooperate enough to have a solid collection like this one...

If I can say only that last pic is not perfectly straight, a so well made photo would be perfect I think if straightened :)

The funny thing about that photo - I stood there for 10 minutes trying to line up the flags with the natatorium and just couldn't do it. Had to quit when my wife called my for the 3rd time. :D
